Hey Mike! I was looking at the gear ratio chart and I noticed a mistake. Look at "31 tires X 4.88 gears. That can't be right. It should be 3438 rpm. Odd we never noticed before.

just a question on the chart. does it matter what size engine? or is it the same ratio no matter what engine your running? thanks

the RPM's are the same no matter what engine you have. 1.3L suzuki samurai engine or a 513 chevy big block... the diff gears just have to do with how many times the engine, trans, and t-case, and driveline turn vs. how many times the tires turn. but if you have a bigger/more powerful engine, say a V8, you don't need as low (numerically high) of gears, because the V8 would make enough power in the low RPM range to turn bigger tires at a higher ratio (engine turns 1 time - tires turn 3.73 times, because there's enough power) and if i've got you more confused than you were before, check out auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm for an in-depth explanation of how differentials work.
