shackles connect one end of your leaf springs to the frame. when you flex your suspension and flatten out the arched spring, it gets longer, end-to-end. so the shackles swing and allow the spring to flex. here you can see how the shackle (far right of the spring, behind the exhaust pipe) swings down as the suspension droops. and when the axle gets pushed back up, the shackle swings back. hope that makes sense and helps ya!

Well if you plan on driving your truck they are a GOOD THING. Your truck probally already has some on, go lay under your truck and look. Without them your suspension would be about useless. Unless you took them off, then i'd bet you have some on, cause thats how they came from the factory. chad

if they're 2 inches longer than the ones on your truck right now they'll give you an inch of lift and let your springs flatten out more when you flex em. if the rear end of your truck is sagging at all, or you just want to lift it up an inch, i'd say slap em on!

What year is your truck??? Does it have leaf springs in the front or an Independant Front Suspension? If it is 1986 or newer it has IFS.

seeing that it's been a week since the last post i think i'll jump in and say that those are definitely fronts, and if you already have some lift in your truck your probably going to need degree shims between the springs and axle to change the pinion angle so that the u-joint does'nt bind on your front drive shaft
