In the snow when I have both lockers engaged the truck wants to crab-walk sideways.
You definetly have more control on the street open.

One more thought....if you traverse a lot of hills, a locker might get REAL scary in the snow. I've seen a Jeep with boggers and open diffs actually slide sideways down a muddy sidehill from the lack of static grip from the bogger tread. I locker will do the same thing while you're moving across a sidehill with any tire because there will be nothing there to hold you from sliding down. You might find yourself crabbing at a 45 degree angle to go straight across a hill. Of course going up the hill will be much better ;D I hate to focus too much on snow, but when you have it 8 months out of the year, it's hard not to.....

I would like to add that you can curb the bad actions of a locker in snow by installing snow chains, But its always nice to have one diff open in the snow

I live in the mountains where it snows alot.Lockers are ok, just don't get too brave.I wouldn't weld it.That's called a lincoln locker.LOL. My toy does fine in the snow.I like the detroit locker myself but ther'es a few others that are fine and cheeper.SAS is the way to go.With that said you should also send for some longfield birfieldsor a respectable substitute. They are stronger, or resist breaking. You'lle need those with 36's.Definitly get the lockers front and rear. You'lle be glad you did.

just lock the rear and see how you like it. It will make a substantial difference in itself. If thats not enough, lock the front. I'm sure you will be pleased with the rear to start.... I've got snow, ice and slush.... I need 4wd on the street on occasion. locked front=no street sorry guys....It's hard enough driven "open" on black ice don't need a "danger to himself and others" out there. nothing personal...... FYI locked diff on ice while breaking=no good. try it. similar to putting an auto in neutral to unload the drivetrain. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you don't know driving in the northeast.
