ok, here's the deal, I've got an 87 4runner with a 22re and an automatic tranny, I've put 33's on it and want to re-gear, I've been told that the auto's come with gear in the 4.30:1 range, and I can get a set of 4.88:1 for free and I was wondering if that would be a high enough ratio, also if anyone else out there has an auto with oversize tires let me know how it's been holding up.
Thanx in advance for your input

Check on this site under Articles and then Info and FAQ's. There check out the Gears and Axle Posts and all your questions will be answered. I did for me at least.

The 4 cyl/AT was usually 4.30, but with the factory 31" tire pkg it came with 4.88 gears.
Free 4.88s should be fine for 33s if you have 4.30s now.

Dude, if you can get a set of 4.88's then you better get them. The gear ratio should be fine, if not send them down my way. I'll take them off your hands.
