is it ok to have different gears in the front than in the rear as long as you dont run the truck on pavement in four wheel drive? my last truck (nissan pathfinder) had different gears in the front thatn in the rear from the factory and all the manual said was not to use 4x4 on pavement. I just dont want to pay the cost to get the font diff regeared but i want 4.88's in the rear so that my 33's will turn a little faster on the highway. i have factroy 4.10' now.

If the 2 ratios were a little closer together you could get away with it, but I think 4.10 and 4.88 is too big a difference.

I wouldn't run different gear ratios. There will be a time when you forget and pop in in 4-wheel and you don't want to mess something up because your being stupid. If you have to change and you drive it on the road a bunch you might want to remove the front driveshaft so something doesn't happen.

Well if he was manual hubs its doesnt matter aslong as they are not locked If you re-read the first sentence of his post, he's talking about off road in 4WD. If he didn't lock his hubs he wouldn't have 4WD.
