All right, I am tiard of being stoped by one front tire and one rear tire leaving the ground and loosing all forward momentum. So I have decided it is time for a locker. I just went down to Desert Rat in Phoenix, AZ and they quoted me at 270 for a lockrite, and 300 to install. Is this an average price for instalation at a shop? or should I be able to go somewhere else for less. Or, if I did my research, even without doing this type of instal before, would it be extremely difficult to instal this type of locker by myself? Thanks for reading the post and for any info you might have in return.

So the $300.00 is just for installation and $570.00 for the locker and installation? 300 seems a little high. I've been told about $150 for installation and setup per diff. Oh, I didn't figure in the cost of the install kit. If the 300 includes the master install kit then the price is about rite.

I concur. I paid about that much for my install. Good choice on finally locking your axle. One of the best modes I made.

I dont think he was refering to changing the gears too; so there would not be any master install kit. 300 is kinda high but you should be lucky to have someone do it in your area. I installed the Aussie which is very similar, It wasnt as easy as others would have you think but definantly feasbile. If you follow the instructions on the website I posted about my aussie locker install post. Then you should be able to do it. It helps to have extra hands too.

Also, The two problem areas for me were:removal of pinion retaing pin(I had to use a press) and getting the backlash back on key. If you follow the site exactly then you shouldnt have the backlash problem. Basically if you can take the third member out then you can install a locker like the lockrite or aussie. Arb's and detroits replace the whole carrier and require more work and tools, esp. ARB.

Ok, thanks for the info all. I have looked at the instructions and some write up's on installing them sence my first post and have decided to have the pros do it. I believe I could do it, but with no experience in doing it and not being very rich I would rather pay first then have to pay to have damage fixed later. Should be locked up by the end of the month ;D
