I would go 5.29's if it real is only a pleasure vehicle.

The important question here is what tranny do you have ?
For auto, go with 4.88's or 5.29's For manual, go with 4.56's or 4.88's
5.29 is too way low for 33's on a manual, you'll be out of the engines power band, and be up/down shifting all the time trying to find a good gear for the speed you're doing. Been there, Done that.

Personally I would sacrifice some on road performance for off road in a pleasure only vehicle. Thats why I say 5.29's, either way.

i ran 5.29s and 33s no real problems i had great power with them. i would prolly go 4.88s for 33s.

If you do alot of highway drvn then 4.88s. If all you do is drive to the trail and back or just city drvn below 65 then 5.29s especially if you plan to go bigger. 4.88s and 33's are lower than 28's and 4.10s and considering most 33s are more 32s than I think 4.88s are plenty.

Actually i think Fourwd1 has it backwards. You want to run 5.29's in a manual and 4.88's in an auto tranny. Reason being, is that you get added torque multiplication from the convertor in an auto tranny, meaning more "power" from less gear. I'd run 5.29's myself.

Nah, fourwd1 is right, you use numerically higher gears in a automatic transmission.

well, i have a 84 P/U with a 22r and a 5spd. im really happy with the way the 4.56 gearing turns the 33X12.5's. while im drivin down the higway im very able to keep up and pass other vehicles. the offroad capabilities are also very good, i have yet to bog it down and it has no problems goin thru technical. if you were to regear i would go with the 4.88 because of the auto. hope it helps.

I have an 85 4 runner, 22re and have been running 33's with 5.29's for almost 10 years now with no issues. I am mainly on country roads. On the interstates I don't go much over 72 mph. At 72 mph I am at the top of the band....3300 rpm. I like 5.29s but if you are a road warrior who needs highway speed of over 72 to 80 mph go with 4.88's. If I need speed I get the Audi out......

Nah, fourwd1 is right, you use numerically higher gears in a automatic transmission. We thank you for your support ;D Yeah, autos are usually geared one step lower (numerically higher) than manuals. With Toyotas, 4 cyl/5 spd = 4.10, while 4 cyl/auto = 4.30, etc.
