I was just gave a bad axle (ran with no gear oil i was told). It came from a 90 something pickup. Is it the same as what is in my 86? Or will the third member work (swap in) if i rebuilt it. Just looking for a little information on this. I just thought free to a good home. Maybe a rebuildable 3rd member and spare axle shafts. Or the very least just more scrap metal to take off next time. Maybe a link to somewhere to tell me about these axles would be nice if someone knew one.

If it was me I would open the axle up and take a good look inside. The r/p might not be good but could be rebuilt. As for the axle shafts they should be good I would think. I would keep the axle for A spare if nothing else. That's if things are still good.

On what year toys will the third member swap. I have not done anything with toyota yet. So i guess what i am asking is what all trucks have an 8" I think it is where the 3rd member will swap. 79-? or is there other years that will not swap? Is it just trucks that had a v6 or 4 cylinder that the 3rd member will not swap back and forth? What is the difference in these axles?

actually the third members from 79-85 front axles and any toyota mini(except tacoma) I beleive are interchangable(including 2pinion to 4pinion)the only 3 member that is truly different is the 4.88 which came with factory 31" tire package if I am wrong correct me please because my experience has been as long as you swap the entire third member everything bolts up.

the diference between the 2 pinion(4cyl) and 4pinion(v6) is the crown and pinion, the v6 I believe has more teeth on the crown even though they are exactly the same ratio. The 4.88 however is a completely diferent carier and will not bolt into v6 or 4cyl 3rd members.
