no matter what lift is put on the truck will affect the gear ratio. you might get a little more wind drag, but will not affect you that much. as Drew said 5.29's are your best bet for the 36's

tire size will affect your gear ratio. with taller tires you will need lower gears. when you lift the truck it will give you a little more wind drag as toyomudman said. with 36's i would run 5:29's. it will bring your RPM's closer to stock or better. just my $.02! later!

i'm new to most of this stuff and i was wandering what gear ratio i should use on my '91 toy longed with 36x12.5r15?thx 5.29's for a manual tranny 5.71's for an auto tranny (an don't buy into that "they're too weak you'll break them" BS) Only tire size (diameter) affects gearing, lift as nothing to do with it.

For just one ring and pinion set and a bearing set $179 would be about average
R/P set $100 ea. Bearing set $80-$100 ea. If you need someone to install them add in other $150/3rd memberi'm new to most of this stuff and i was wandering what gear ratio i should use on my '91 toy longed with 36x12.5r15?thx 5.29's for a manual tranny 5.71's for an auto tranny (an don't buy into that "they're too weak you'll break them" BS) Only tire size (diameter) affects gearing, lift as nothing to do with it. Not to step on any toes...... or at least not by accident ;D
As fourwd1 contradicted himself.... the tranny and somewhat the engine can play a role in the gears to get. BUT for the most part the tire size is the main factor.

[/quote] Try reading the post. His question was, does a body or suspension LIFT affect gearing. The answer is still NO. There is no contradiction.
