If im going to be using 33's for trails and mudd in primarily 4-lo and will be doing minimal road driving with the 33's (changing 31's and 33's back and forth) are gears a very necessary thing to start changing

You'll be fine with the stock gears and 33's.

more gear just helps give it some more umph. you don't need gears, just helps make up for the loss of power from the bigger tires
