What are the pros and cons of an electronic locker versus a air locker?

Both are selectable lockers. If you play in the mud a lot you might be better off with the ARB. I've seen the E-lockers fail in wet/cold conditions the actuator freezes up. If you go with the ARB get their mini-compressor it's cheaper and it's made better. You can run it off of a CO2 tank. There are a lot more ways to set-up the ARB but most of all to me it's been dependable. IMO

E lockers also have an big actuator on the diff that can be hit or otherwise damaged. An ARB has a little hose coming off the top out of harms way. Plus if you have the ARB setup, you can air your tires up and run air tools off the compressor.

From my own expieriences the ARB compressors suck for anything other than operating the lockers. It's the only product from ARB that I've used and don't have anything positive to say about it. I am referring to the their larger compressor. I am getting the smaller one to test it's durability. And I am truely hoping for better results.

True enough Hoodlum, I have heard you can run those lockers off a C02 tank but I haven't researched it enough. I know you would have to get a separate regulator that would only put out the tiny amount of pressure the lockers need. That compressor is nothing to write home about but it will air the tires up. My buddy actually has set his up so it has a reserve tank connected to it.

the will run the arb with no issues. i have been runnin mine for like 5 years on co2. i just got a preset 90pis regulator. the arb uses a good amount of pressure to work just super low volume.

If i was buying new i would go with ARBs, but if you can pick up a e locker cheap at a salvage yard then go for it. The motor on mine died when the worm drive filled up with sand. My own fault as i didnt extend the breather up out of harms way. Now i have motor off and drilled a hole through the driven gear and just have a spring that i hook through a hole i drilled through the web on the top and bottom of the carrier. Top hole for lock, bottom for unlocked. Its a pain but it does the trick for now.

It works fine for that and I've used it to air up my tires many times in a pinch. It's not really meant for continuous duty like airing up 4 big tires, and it's slow when doing so, but it still keeps going.
