I know in 4wd both gear sets need to match, well their is a pretty sweet sas'd truck for sale in my area except for the fact that up front he has a d44 w/5.38's and toyota rear with 5.29 both with lockers. Would this do more serious damage? I figured if any problem this is why he is selling it. I have emailed him, but have gotten no response. here is a link: norfolk.craigslist.org/car/370078911.html

Mud racers have been doing this for many years. As long as the ratio's are close there shouldn't be any issues. If they aren't close enough you'll know when you let out the clutch you'll feel like you just joined the rodeo(bucking).

If you intend on tagging for the road, I'd be more worried about it passing inspection.

If you intend on tagging for the road, I'd be more worried about it passing inspection. What would be the problem w/ inspections?

SASing a truck involves alot of radical work. In my state anything non-stock is usually a Fail, because inspectors don't understand anything unusual or nonstock. They're not willing to stretch anything for fear of loosing their license, so --- Fail.
For me to explain that the cross-over steering I installed is actually better than the stock push-pull steering would fall on deaf (and dumb) ears. Same for the totally different suspensions F & R.

Oh, and VA inspections are much more strict than here in MD, you have it every year (or is it every other). Here it's only once, before you tag it.

We have inspections once a year, only certain shops are strict. The shop I went to last month for my inpection wolud pass a solid axle swapped truck , just because they have done them (not for cheap). But it just depends on the shop, (different shop)I had a lowered car that was too low to even get on their rack and they passed me! I know if I ever have inspection problems to take it to thatshop. I propably wouldn't have any work done at that place.
