I have an 81 and i was wondering if a ratcheting locker up front would do alright in the snow. And if I had the hubs unlocked on the road wouldn't be just like an open diff. I'm new to the whole ratcheting locker thing.
Thanks Patrick

Most lockers pretty much react the same way in the snow. As long as your going line they're fine but turning the ratcheting one's will be a little bit better but still want to go straight. And you're correct about unlocking the hubs.

How is it compared to just welding it. I dont really drive in the snow that much maybe 5-6 times a year.

I have a welded front diff. Love the traction. Hate the hard turning and the trucks desire to only go straight. It will actually turn better in loose snow then dry land. And now it looks like Bobby Long doesnt want to warranty his shit if you run one in the front, so i am looking to swap to an arb in the spring.
