Which is better and why, marlin or advanced? advanced seems a lot cheaper here in Australia..
also which parts would I need from the 4spd forward shift t-case to fit up the dual kit in my top shift t-case?

Unless you're into some serious hardcore rockcrawling, like competition or something, you'd probably be OK with either.
As for the second question, which case is the stock case, top or forward shift?

So far I have my G52 (I think) top shift case in my 4Runner + all the low range parts from the same kind of case with casing and shifting parts + a shifter stick from a older t-case (off a 4spd). I might be getting my top and forward shifting mixed up sorry.
Anything else I need apart from the adapter kit.

I'll make a new skid plate from like 8mm plate or something, I'll make it as low profile as I can without sacrificing strength.

Here's some ideas for your skid plate. This skid plate is from Bud Built and runs for about $250.

X2 on the BudBuilt.
I had the single and now the dual. They kick ass and Bud's a great guy to deal with. Don't know if you can get them downunder.

The second case must be a top shift one and mates to the front case using the adapter.

I also have Bud's single with 2" DT lift built in under the Tacoma and will have Bud's dual case x-member under my '81 Truggy.
