How underpowered is a 5spd V6 Taco on 35's? Looking to purchase a taco, I want to evently get 4.88's. But would rather have it sas'd first. So I am thinking of taking off the 35's and putting 33's on it. Comment

I ran 33's on a mere carbed 4cyl 22R for years (along with a bizillion other people) with no problems.
I'd at least try the 35/3.4 combo, then maybe 33's if you don't like.

And I'd go with 5.29s instead of 4.88.

my old truck was a 97 taco v6 3.4 and it had stock gears 4.11's with 35x12.50 mud dawgs and it had plenty of power to spare and it was a 5 speed i could boil them down to nothing if i wanted to the v6 motor will turn them great and gears will jus help it more with gas milage i think i got about 18 mpg

Well, did you take into account the fact that the odo (and speedo) are off due to the larger tires when calculating your MPG ? and did he? you maybe comparing apples and oranges.

BTW I am running 35's with 5.29's and a 83 22r with a POS weber carb. I can still get down the freeway, shoot, I even hit 71 on the way home tonight. My buddy runs 35's with 4.88's with a 2.7L Taco and can still hit the speed limiter no problem. I would think a 3.4 would handle 35's even with the stock gears with very few problems. Your not going to be racing Mustangs with it, but who really cares? My biggest question(since I am shopping for a 3.4 Taco), is how much work do you need to do to fit those 35's without hitting the firewall. We had to do alot of grinding, cutting, and welding to fit them on a 97 Taco with 3"SL and 2"BL. After front 1.5"spacers, it can now tuck those big tires all the way up.

Ya while the truck can handle 33's and struggle a bit, you dont want to go 35" with out changing gears...4:88 but best is 5:29
