I don't know if anyone has any inside knowledge here but if Toyota did not have a V8 engine back in 93 then why didn't they just drop in the Landcruiser's big 212 horsepower 275 ft/lbs torque 4.5 liter straight six. Wouldn't this have solved the obvious criticisms and power issues that were going to obviously arise. The old 3.0 liter could have been a base engine and the big straight six would have made a beautiful option. Back in 1993 212 horses and 275 ft/lbs would have put the T100 in V8 power league.
Is it just me or did Toyota drop the ball with this? Would the 1-6 have made the T100 a much greater success than it ever was? Has Toyota ever been asked why they didn't offer this engine?
