I was wondering if anybody here has any experience with comparing the performance of the Tundra 3.4 V6 to GMs Silv 4.3 or FMC 4.2 and the Tundra 4.7 against GMs 4.8(or 5.3)or FMC 4.6? & 5.4 performance -wise. I'm not talking about towing ability necessarily. More about acceleration and getting around town without having to stand on the gas. As far as towing, about all I'd be pulling is a light trailer with a lawn tractor or a couple of dirt bikes. I'm interested in the 2000-2002 Tundra, but I'm afraid the 3.4 is gutless for me, and the 4.7 is too thirsty. Alot of people I talk to about the 4.7 mpg, aren't too happy. I do like a spritely performing engine. It's just tough to beat GM on fuel economy AND performance. Thanks.

I agree w/ the s/c your highway gas mileage will be great, the only downfall is your supose to use premium w/ the s/c. Another option is get the 3.4 and throw some bolt ons, air intake, headers exchaust and a chip since your towing

My dads 05 Tundra 4.7 V8 4door 4x4 lifted on 33's gets 19mpg highway(not sure on city)
My 97 4runner 3.4 V6 4x4 stock get 20mpg highway 14 city.
Friends 02 Tacoma 3.4 V6 4door 4x4 stock got 19mpg highway think aroun 17 on 35's.....
Am i missing something on MPG problem with the toyota V8? or are our 3.4's just running bad?
The tundra pulls a trailer with his 67 FJ40 on 35's just fine down the freeway, not sure on mileage while towing though. Dont need to stand on the gas in any of them to get around town..... hell i didnt have to stand on the gas with my 22r in my 85, but i dont drive like i got a sports car... its a truck, not a sports car. But the v6 and 4.7 aint bad, way more power than earlier toys.

I agree with shibby my 05 quadcab has a 4.7 and I get 18 hwy and 16.5 city (heavy foot). Two guys that work for me are jealous. one has a quadcab dodge 4.7 and averages 8 mpg no matter what and the other has a quad cab chevy 5.3 and he gets 10 mpg. So whats not to love... drive a truck expect to get truck gas milage.
