I finally purchased a dang 4runner. Still haven't gotten that Seq. and that Taco yet though....but very happy. I've always been a toyota fan and that 4runner looks great in the garage sitting next to my wifes '02 camry. I never really was interested in trucks and suv's in the past. years of flyfishing has lead me into deeper terrains. I bought a '73 dodge custom 100 to pack up more gear to fish, but w/o 4WD it got stuck and/or wouldn't make it up hills (not to mention, fishing partners were limited to me and one other). I then bought a '97 Kia Sportage. Great machine, I was very surprised by it willingness to get me into some nasty back country trails. I have to be careful with it, the clearance isn't all that good, but overall, it's a fun machine (still have it, for sale now). Now, a '96 Runner. First night on test drive, I took it into some small, tight mud, snow and hilly trails. After driving that small manuverable Kia, the Runner took a little bit of getting used to. Great vehicle though. Fully @#$ing loaded, with attitude? That's what I'm talking about. I use my vehicle to get to fishing places mostly off road, but I'm not a hard core offroader. Shoot, at times, I try to take the smoothest damn route possible. But heck, at times, my daughters and I get bored.....and it's time to get dirty and have fun. Nothing hardcore, just fun. I'm very interested in suggestions. The vehicle is stock from what I can tell. The tires are a very tready 265r's that fit fairly tight in the wells. I hope to take pic's soon and show you this toy! Thanks for the welcome!!!!

Welcome Roc. Glad you got yourself a runner. Even if you use it to get you to and from the fishing spots, you will find this board handy. Some of us like the hardcore stuff and others just like owning a toyota and driving it to work everyday. So all are welcome. If your lookin for some suggestions on upgrades for your SUV I would mention a couple things. First off is some all terrain tires. They can help get you out of some sticky situations. The second upgrade would be a small lift to give you a little more ground clearance. They make a 2" spacer lift for your coil sprung runner that is about $300. Just basically a spacer placed in line with your coils to give more lift. Other than that...sounds like a good vehicle.

thanks fellas. like i said, i'm running stock right now. the 265 75 R 16's are "Terra Trac - Radial A/M hercules". They are pretty beefy, the tread is deep and they're brand new. I'm mostly interested in a good lift, that won't keep me from parking in the garage.....hehe.

there's a heck of a trail near the dunes that takes you from the highway up to lake como. this is on mt. blanca. i, myself, have never been there, but heard there are still a couple vehicles left for dead on the trail!
