Hi everybody. I have been a Toyota driver for about 7 years now. I started out with a rusty old '81 with a rebuilt 22R in it, now I am driving an '82 with the 81's engine in it. Much better body on this one... frame is in good shape too. It's been my DD for the last 5 yrs while I suffered thru college and my first year of working in the real world again.
Which means now I finally have a few $$$ to invest in building the beast [glow=red,2,300]OH MAN ! I can't wait to build my truck![/glow] TOR has just become my official homepage... Oh - and I voted
What I got right now: 22R with aftermarket offy intake manifold, weber carb and hedman header and 2.5" custom exhaust c/w freeflow muffler. Everything else is stock, except for the stereo: Clarion ProAudio deck and 6pack with Rockford Fosgate PUNCH amp and 6" MTX boxes behind seats (with enough speaker wire to lay 'em on the roof or in the box for those classy all night fireside soirees.)
I am just in the process of disassembling (probably to bare frame...). My goal is to build a versatile trail and mud 4wheeler but keep it mild enough that the wife can drive it around town. Plans include ARBs front and rear with 488's, and 33" BFG MT's under 3 to 5 " suspension lift. This leads to my first question:
I have read in off road mags that anytime you lift a 79-83 toy over 3" you need to modify steering. There's a guy parting out an 82 nearby with a 4.5" lift kit for sale. What should I look for under there for steering mod componenets when I check out his rig?
I look forward to pickin your guys' brains and posting help for others whenever I can. I will add some pics ASAP.
