Yea!! anyways. I live there. up 20 towards tahoe. about 10min out of town. and i have/had a few toyotas. they Rock Socks off!! the list is

>sweet 86 4runner, LC Eng cam and headers, K&N Cold air, Flowmaster, SAS on 35s(Fliped on HWY, drove home)

>85 ex cab, fed truck, prevous owners ignorantly swaped in a CA 22r and then let it sit. i got it for CHEAP(200) couldnt get it to pass smog but drove/wheeled it for like a year sold it(1200)

the toyota love started when a friend got a 1st get 4runner and we had a blast. with the top off! then i got the 86 and the ball was rollin!

my current 83 is going (hopefully) to be the one to hold on to for a long while, i would like to equip it more than lift it, (But definately not out of the question!) and get it to confortably cruz 70 on the Hiway! so feel free to add tips,tricks,suggestions or potential problems to the long term wish list of..

>ARB locker rear (and maybe front)
>Marlin L52HD
>somehow more power out of the 22r!(headers, ignition or?not sure) or go imported Diesel!
>Maybe dual t-cases

i could go on and on and on and on. and if the time aloud i could go on some more..

my little brains idea is to have a indstructable truck with underpowered motor so not to break anything and stay fuel efficient. and be able to drive across country and stay out of the POPO's watchful eye.

Well if you intend on going the imported diesel route later on this summer or fall if all goes as planned I am putting a Toyota turbo diesel in my truck which is an 82. I'll hopefully have all the bugs worked out of it so if you do end up doing that I may be able to help you out. I've done all that you have written down to do to your 22R on mine and it does really good for what it is but I just want more. I'm working on a topper for my truck right now out of heavy canvass that might work well on your truck as well as another option. And one thing that I'm pretty sure will cause you problems with this truck is the transmission. Mine has been extremely bad. The front main bearing has gone out twice on it. And 5th gear bearing once. Your going in about the same direction I've been with mine. I don't want to go over 31's with mine because I use it everyday but with lockers and a good suspension it will go along ways. If you do up the motor with a header plugs wires and do the exhaust properly you can cruise at 70mph no problem except for the hills and towing anything. For having the stereo in the beast I built a center console and put 2 6.5's in it and there are 2 6.5's in the doors and it sounds pretty good. No major thumping but it works and sounds pretty good. The look I'm going for with mine is like an Australian Ute type of thing. Anyways good luck with the truck. I look forward to hearing progress on this one.

sounds sweet lets see some pics of her. do the later 85 and up trannies bolt up to our 22r or is it different? and have you researched the marlin trannies. they take a L52 tranny like ours, bore it to fit larger main shaft bearings and put a 85-88 gear set, i think g54, in there. its like a newer tranny but without the added length. when mine goes im hoping i have the funding to get one of those instead.

I put a Marlin rebuild kit in mine. I'm pretty sure the later trannies will bolt up but you will have to change the driveshafts. If I were keeping the 22R I would do that but I'm just tired of a gas motor and want a diesel. For what I do it would just be so much better. I'll be driving 8 hours this weekend. A diesel is much better for that than my 22R. This is my beast. I haven't got the topper on yet as I still need to get the canvass work done but its olive drab army green colored and will follow the same line as my roll bar.

I don't have a good picture of the outside with the new bumper on it right now so I can show you that later. I fixed the edges of that vinyl on the console as well so they arent sticking up.

Yes I did. Made it out of 1/2'' MDF I think it was. And put vinyl on it and on the armrest I put 3/4'' foam under the vinyl. It was my first attempt at making anything like that so its not perfect but I don't have a sewing machine either. I used contact bond and staples to hold the vinyl on. And I fixed the edges where the vinyl was sticking up in that pick.
