Newb from NC

So I got my 1994 Yota 4x4 Pickup truck about a year ago, and just now got a job about a month ago and I'm wanting to "rig it up". Mainly for trail riding and mudding. But the problem is, my dad thinks its a waste because of what our neighbors done.

About a year ago, we bought someones land that they rided on illegally and they got mad cause we wouldn't let them ride on it because we were thinking of building a shed there. So when we were gone they came to the house and tore up our land with there "rigs" and continued to do it, ruining our property. They had no respect for anybodys land. But I won't go into all of it.

Now he believes people with rigs who go trail riding tear up land and ruin the woods. I'm trying to convince him otherwise. I know its not all that, but because of our neighbors.. thats what he believes.

Since I have a 4 cylinder, I would like to gain more horsepower without robbing my gas mileage. I've searched some upgrades.. cold air intake, exhaust, etc. But since I work 2-3 days a week, have school, play baseball.. I really won't have that much money to spend. So I would like to know which upgrades would be best to get first? I have 31x10.5 all terrain tires, and thats just about it. I wanted wider tires, but couldn't afford rims.. so I'm stuck with those. Everything else is pretty much stock.

I'm a complete newb at these things, hopeing to take a mechanic calss next year in college, so take it easy on me.

A random question, does anyone have a 1994 Toyota that came without power steering?? Mine did, and I'm just wondering if anybody else has? I'm not sure why anyone would want something without power steering.

WELCOME to TOR! And I must say that your dad needs to spend some time on the net and take a good look at Tread Lightly, United Four Wheel Drive Accoc. and Southern Four Wheel Drive Assoc just to name a few and take a look at what wheelers are all about. We've done more for our enviroment as a whole than most other outdoorsman organizations combined. But our problem is that our bad apples are really bad and have no problem spoiling it for the rest of us.

I agree with Hoodlum, get your dad on the net and get him to understand what 90-95% of us wheelers are all about. Most of the guys in my area get pissed at the litter bugs and trail wrecker. Somewhere on here I mentioned a little story about some guys that drove off the (Rubicon) trail which is all Forestry and privately own land, and you're not allowed to go off the trail cuz of that reason. Well to make a long story short while they were off hiking down a hill side me and my buddy went out and removed the rotor their rig. We radio the Forest Rangers and waited for them to show up. As we waited, we did get to watch a good show of the kids trying to get their rig started and getting mad cuz it wouldn't.

For the actual HP a good place to start would be a header and maybe up grade your cam. LC Engineering I think has the best of both of these. Also a good place to look for other options for increased HP.

Sweet guys, I'll thats a try with my dad. Hes a good dad, about to retire from the Sherrifs department, but hes a bit narrow minded, lol.
