Need advice on 88 4runner rebuild!

okay if you saw me post in the welcome center you will know i tried using my 88 yota 4runner as a submarine well know i have a little bit of money but got some questions.

1.how much is too much, currently i am looking at $1,657.01 for a 22re bored 40 over and an after market cam. thats if my core is good and i do all the work my self. core should be good--fingers crossed. and the cam was 100$ parts no labor.

2. what is the max you can bore a 22re and is 40 over going to cuase to much heat/cooling problems? if a rebuilt engine has been bored 40 over does that mean that particular block/head or whatever has been around awhile or had major problems,becuase i do believe it was bored so it can be usable not perfomance.

3. what bolt on mods are a must? right now i am looking for headers,if any one can link some cheap but decent headers-looking for the biggest i can go, ca street legal-i believe i am looking at 2 1/2 inch. and a complete exhaust system to go with em. besides that the only thing i am looking at is a bigger throttle body. what kinda price range am i looking at for a bigger than stock but street legal throttle body, and is it worth it? does it complement my build up or can i do with out it.

Build up:
1. stock 22re<---rebuilt-bored 40 over and a mid-high end range aftermarket cam.
2. 2 1/2 inch headers with full exhaust system to match.
3. maybe bigger throttle body.
4. probably some sort of water resistant/proof open cold air intake system<--any thing but the stock box .
if you can drop some links of parts so i can check em out!

is there any thing i am over looking that would be relitivly cheap 2-300$ that i can do know atm while i am doing this rebuild?

is it worth trying to find a good used usable engine? i am really short on time cuz i need it up and running if any one is close like 2 or so hours max away and has an engine let me know.
any one close enough and can do a rebuild or help me drop this baby in let me know.

o btw the 88 yota 4runner is stock suspension and 31x10.5 tires so not looking to change gears or need to move big tires just lookin for a lil more umpf and let my engine breath the best it can.

k so i see actual throttle bodies are a bit pricy<--well at jcwhitney anyways. are they worth $300+ or can i get by with just a throttle body space and call it good? or a combo of both gimmie some feed back

k witch one first or second or both? you guys know of cheaper/better ones/setups?

I have a chip/performance module on my 22re.

I am runnin the Venom 400. For the money its not really worth it. I would have rather bought a header and cam. But if you are building the motor up the Venom would be your best bet as far as a chip goes. I had talked to a bunch of toyota tech guys and they did lots of testing and found that the venom gives the most power out of all of the ones on the market. The Venom really benifits from engine upgrades such as came, bore increase, and headers. The power im making from the Venom wont be anything like you will make from it since all your other upgrades.

The Venom is a passive system until you hit 1/2-3/4 throttle then the lil LED light comes on and fuel suckage begins! Its a very easy system to install. If you have to run smog test it wont be legal but the nice thing is it has an on/off switch on the box.

Oh and another thing as far as your cold air system.

If you like to offroad dont go with anything of that nature! I wasted 160 bucks on a Hot Shot cold air and open filter system. It does nothing but get covered in SH*T every time i wheel it. You are better of making a snorkel which would be the best form of cold air and your benifit far more from it!

Heya Bowshtr i love the yota u got i was wondering what did the venom 400 run you as far as price goes? and i am gonna build up the stock air box with a mini snorkel off of it, and run a K-n-N air filter, and run bigger/wider, holes/hoses. cuz i know what you mean by getin stuff in the open air intake while mobbin'

4x4demonwithin- I cant remember the price i paid on it. i wanna say it was somewhere around 300 if im not mistaken. It is a great system and really tweaks things up when you are runnin a cam, header, etc. Just look around the internet. I am sure you will find something somewhere on it. The BEST thing you could run would be SDS but that is a bit much for your level. SDS lets you tweak just about everything to get the max power that EFI will put out!
