... Saturday upon advice of the owner of a '90 4x4. I hadn't realized it was a separate belt until he told me. It seems the 22r-e spins a little more freely. Will check mileage. Now then, I am entertaining the thought of removing the compressor, but have no idea of what to do with the plumbing. Is it worth the effort of re-plumbing to save a few pounds and make a little room under the hood? One more thing: the thought occured that if I leave the a/c wiring intact, could it be used to link to running/fog lights? Could I use that cool blue a/c button as a fog light switch? Hey, I may be an old fart, but I can sure ask stoooopid questions ... __________________ abiding in Him, ><>fish3006<>< '88 yota regular cab/short bed 4x4.

I cant see the advantage in taking out the compressor and plumbing. Getting rid of the extra drag on the motor by cutting the belt i understand but why bother with the rest? Never know when you might want to get it working again.
As far as your switch idea i would have to see a schematic to say for sure but i would think not, or at least not easily. Just because your ac is set to on doesnt mean your compressor is running so power wont be directly switched at the compressor by that button. You could likely rewire the switch to make it work but i cant see using the existing wiring as is.

I have seen some writeups on the making the pump into an air compressor. Don't remember where or how good they worked.

I believe you'll need to add an optional oiler for the A/C compressor.
