So, had my engine conk out on me in January, 360k km... not bad... I think I have a donor engine, but since I'm in an area where these things don't die, I only seem to be finding the 22r, not the RE... I am kinda hoping that the differences are limited to an extent with just the intake.
The question I have - can I put the 22r in the truck, then just use my intake? I realize as I type this, that there might be things I need that aren't part of the donor... Let me know guys, it'd be appreciated!

As far as bolting things up the 22r will bolt into where your 22re was with no problems and the intake will bolt up too. For the exhaust, make sure the shape of the ports match. The older 22r's have round ports and the newer ones have pear shaped ports which are the same as on the 22re's. I read somewhere that the camshafts are different between the motors. I can't remember where and I only saw it on one site. I put an efi system on my 22r and have had no problems.

Check out the LC Engineering and DOA Racing sites. They have helpful info on the 22R vs 22RE.
