Okay, I have my buddy's '83 4x pickup. Bought a crate motor to replace the worn-out mill. I've had the new motor a couple years, and FINALLY got around to getting ready to plan to put it in. Pulled the old one, took the cab off, etc. It's gonna get a full resto, so that stuff was gonna happen anyway. Here's the deal:
I bought a 22RE instead of a 22R. DOH! I have an Offy dual-plane intake, Weber carb, and guess what, they don't fit!
Insert 'I am an idiot' emoticon here.
So I need to sell this engine. I bought it from 'John's Foreign Engines', and they even custom-painted it for me (buddy's fave color for engines was TEAL. Yeah, turquoise. Why not?) But it's been so long, I can't expect them to take it back.
Anybody interested in a souped-up crate 22RE? It's supposed to put out about 160 Hp, versus maybe 100 stock. I can find the details somewhere. Also NIB is a PaceSetter header, ceramic coated. I know it's not Thorley, but I got a good deal on it with the engine.
I'm planning to get an LCE 22R stroker eventually, which is what I should've done in the first place!

Might help if you said where you are and how much $.
If you're in my area and the price was right I'd be interested.

Thanks for the replies. I'll post pics and details in the proper place. I was really just venting at my own stupidity.
Check the For Sale section soon...
Thanks again,

Bump. Posted to the For Sale section, where it belongs.
I've got pics, but not sure how to upload them.

Update:
I think I've discovered the error of my ways. There is a 'void' in the head casting that LOOKS like a water jacket, but it's not. That's the part that had me thinking it's the wrong engine.
There is a large water jacket opening in the middle of the head, between the intake ports. I just need to fab a cover plate for it.
One option would be to make a cover plate just big enough to cover the opening. Another way would be to make an entire manifold 'spacer' that blocks off the opening and spaces the intake off the head half an inch. A lot more work, but more elegant.
Maybe I'll try the small plate first: if it leaks coolant I'll make the big one.

One more quick question, then I'll shut up about this stupid thing.
I have the cab off the truck right now. Can I install the cab with the engine already mounted?
I'd like to put the cab into storage (with the rest of the body) while I work on the guts.
Thanks everyone!
