I considered the possibility of damaging the lights while wheeling. I mounted them on a piece of 2x1 1/2 angle iron, and tucked them in close to the body. The fenders are wider than the lights, they are also lower and the rear bumper (5x2 channel ) is 4 inches past the lights. I'm also putting some small (but very bright) driving lights behind the bumper in the corner near the frame. I will get some pics of that later this week.

the tail lights are tucked in close to the bed and mounted to angle iron. the should hold up (USMC issue) lol i finished the bed, painted the cab and fenders, , , then I started cleaning the engine. I was going to give it a good cleaning and replace the gaskets & seals. then I decided I should replace the head gasket while I was at it. it went down hill from there the #1 piston had been replaced, and the cylinder has 2 gouges running the entire length of the cylinder. so the decision was made to bore it out and rebuild. I'm going to bore it.40 over and use a mid size cam. any suggestions??

I threw a LC Engineering street performer cam in mine. It's bored .20 over. It has a smooth idle. I run SSR 35 1250's and 5.29 gears. The engine didn't really wake up until I added a Weber 38, Electric Fan, 90 amp alternator, and perhaps most importantly, a DUI Distributor thru LC. My buddy and I are guessing that it put out maybe 96hp after the engine rebuild with the new cam, after the other upgrades, maybe 120-130hp. I don't think the cam is going to make or break your rebuild, just watch that you don't get one with too much lift. The reason I had to rebuild my engine is that the previous owner(god bless him) let the exhaust valves hit the pistons breaking several of them in half! Couldn't tell you what the previous cam was due to me chunking it immediately.

I rebuilt the engine in 85 I used to have (about 10 yrs. ago) I went pretty radical with it .60 over blah blah blah (lol) it held up pretty good but looking on line the biggest pistons I can find now are .40 over I began to think the machine shop I used was blowing smoke up my butt on the size of the bore and pistons they provided. this truck is not going to be used as hard as the 85 was and I plan on keeping this one as long as I can still drive lol I'm 47 and not as insane as I once was

I hear ya on not driving that hard. Despite my screen name, I live life in the slow lane nowadays. I was truly speedy in my late teens and early 20's. I did all the upgrades to my engine so I could go the speed limit and not get run over!

And .30 over was on the edge of pushing it with the cylinder walls getting to be too thin between the cylinders.

that's what I thought, the 85 ran prety strong when I was done and the pistons were bigger than the original ones who knows. I want this truck to last and be reliable even though it isn't my primary means of transportation I'm building it to haul my 4wheeler and stuff I can't haul in the wifes Subaru Tribeca. I had a tag made for my truck, oooohhh rahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I dropped the block, head & crank off at the machine shop last night. Its a 1 man shop and he stays busy, so I don't know how long it will be there. He is highly recommended and is good with race motors

bought seats for it Saturday, got them from a Ranger 60/40 high backs, got the seat belts and rubber floor mat too. I had to modify the mounts for the seats (lower them) and drill holes in the floor. the seatbelts mounted to the existing holes , I had to drill a hole for the tab that keeps the seatbelts level and rebend the passenger side end mount. I forgot my camera at home I will put some pics up later.

Well I finally bit the bullet and ordered the engine parts: I had to get another crank shaft the 2 I had were TOAST, so I ordered a "NEW" one from Japan engines.com $110.00 plus shipping. I went ahead and ordered the master engine rebuild kit, connecting rods and up graded the head gasket. I still have to order the camshaft, header, and weber.

on the way to the muffler shop.. that's when I noticed that the Krylon paint job was 5 different shades. So after several Emails to Krylon, with no satisfaction, I repainted the truck with Rustoleum. It came out a LOT better.
