surface rust on heavy suspension pieces , is acceptable .. but heres an inside view of the "stock" panels .. with some previous repairs .. some of you guys think ..welding in new steel works !! WASTE OF MONEY .. like I have been tellin' you guys for years ... so got the rears cut off .. and started on the gate skin .. did some POR 15 work on the truck as well as the gate ... and "glued"

Good thread. You're made a lot of progress so far. :-*I have an 86 4runner that is in excellent shape for the most part.It has just a little bit of rust at the rear wheelwells. That I'm going to repair before it gets too bad.

Thanks for the "quetoes" .. you should look back at the pics .. this 4Runner was origanally "patched" up to look good again .. it lasted about 2~3 years .. then rusted again .. (wasted money and time ) all depends on how long youwant to keep your truck for , as to how much money your going to spend . .

Fiberglass doesn't look as hard as i though it would be. I am now considering doing it to my runner. I have already patched it up two years in a row. I am wondering though how do attach the rears and how do you bolt the top back on to the new rear panel? Also what is the the por 15?

roof goes back on as normal .. the bolts are fastened into the sreel structure undernieth the panel , not the panel . so , simply the holes are drilled , roof installed , and your done ! .
panels are "glued on" a 2 part epoxy .. there are probabally 100 brands out there , but I recommend *3m . this stuff is awesome , and stronger then a weld .
POR15 is a rust encapsulator .. it stops it from "breathing" .
