I have a 1994 toyota pickup, 4 cylinders and automatic transmission. Lately I've been having trouble starting it... it will only start when the shifter is in neutral, and I have to jiggle it around for a while before it finds the right spot and starts. I have also managed to start it a couple of times by pushing the shifter forward beyond "Park". I had hit the shift-lock override in order to push it down the driveway before... does it have to be reset somehow, or is this a more serious transmission problem?

Neutral safety switch.Sometimes if you jiggle the shifter or slam it into park will get it to start but it'll still have to be replaced.
