have an 83 toyota. not a hilux not a sr5 i guess just a truck and when i got back from Iraq i did a couple of mods to it and now ready to do some more. First off what i have done. Headman header, 2" exhaust with flowmaster single chamber muffler, 4.88 gear with detroit lockers front and rear. Warn manual lock in hubs, and some cosmetic stuff. This is what i am wanting to do to it now. I got a set of 35" to put under it and i want to put a flat bed on it as well as my orignal is rusting out pretty bad. But the main question is cross over steering. Been looking all night for a write up on start to finish of this. i don't have an ifs system so i know that will have to change. The question i have is there anymore to making it an IFs than going to the local salvage yard and get a gear box and i am guessing a p/s pump and putting it on my rig. is there any other hook up as far as the motor is concerned with besides the belt for the pump. or is that it. I got the gist of the rest of it replacing everything on the axle housing for the steering conponents. the engine part is what i am confused about. The second thing is does anyone have any good pics of a flat bed from the mounts to the frame to where the filler hose for the gas tank is located and or attached. Thanks Rocky

OK, so you want to convert to x-over steering and add power steering?
You will need an IFS PS gear box, PS pump and mounting brackets, PS fluid resevoir, the 3 hoses, and the belt.
You may need a new pulley, depending on whether or not yours has a slot for the PS belt.
And of course the x-over steering kit of your choice.
Note - PS pump mounting brackets changed slightly thru the years, so the closer the donor is to your year, the better. 84 or older 22R would be the best shot.

I would even change to x over steering if it didn't require the ps gear box and pump i kinda like the armstrong steering on it is there a manual gear box with the right to left turning instead of front to back like the current one. thanks for the advice about the mounting bracket i wasn't aware of that. I took the AC compressor off the truck so i am sure there is an extra slot for the ps pump pulley. Thanks again.

I got a x-over kit and new mount brackets for the gear box. You might need to do some welding and everything else I got out of a 1986 4 runner. It mounted right up to my 83 and took about 3 -4 hours to change everything.
