Has anybody tried the isuzu rodeo dana 44 swap? I'm thinking about it but haven't seen anything on it other than the article in either four wheel & offroad or four wheeler that ran a couple years ago. I needz me an ox locker! Have you guys heard of this. I dug through the "library" and found the article. Maybe I should post it. ;D

go ahead and posyt it. im sure noone here has ever done this and if it works then it could be a good idea.but a dana 44 is a half ton axle and so is a yota 8" so really there is no added advantage to doing this.

iluvdirt, I understand that there will be no increase in structural integrity, as the toy 8 inch actually has larger diameter shafts, if memory serves me correctly. What you get is an axle with 4.30 gears, disc brakes, and top it all off, it is said to use standard 44 parts such as bearings and carriers for a street price of around 350 dollars or less. Not to mention they make an ox locker for it. Beats the hell out of a custom axle if you're on my budget. I wheel the South where ARB air lines won't last long.

They stated that the rodeo spring pads would match a Toy's. They didn't say what year but I assume they meant the earlier narrow 8" axles. I would think that more people would be motivated to swap the earlier housings. I just like the parts availability so I'm considering it on my '92. I dont mind rewelding some new springpads. I figured if a large publication actually covered the swap then one of you guys would have tried it. I'm looking for procedural advise (tips and tricks) on the swap, not deciding if its a good idea.

Not sure what year Rodeo axle you are thinking of. I do know my 90 Isuzu 4X4 pickup, and 2 and 4 wd Amigos are rear disc brakes. They are simple set-ups.Maybe good idea to use r.d.b. setup. I may know where 1 or 2 rearends are, fairly cheap in central Ind.

I looked into this exact thing last year and it looks very doable. I was going to do it for the disc brakes, not strength.
The key is to get it from the right years of Rodeos, as it effects the availability of aftermarket gears and lockers to fit it for one thing.
I might have all the info around somewhere.
