I have a 86 Toyota 4Runner that was planning on building into a rock crawler. After talking with some friends I am trying to decide whether to do leaf springs in the front and rear or do a 4 link. I was curious to see what input you guys might have.

Leafs are much easier and cheaper.
A properly executed link set-up will flex much better, but you have to know what you are doing to design and implement it properly.

I'd say go with leaf springs first. Much cheaper and easier to do and deal with. There are some good leaf setups out there that you can buy or make that will flex well. Then later if you feel like you want to have more articulation and want to rack your brain with all the geometry for a link setup then go for it.

I'd have to say that if I had it to do over again, I would have installed a 4 link. Now they sell kits that have all the geometry figured out for you. I was going to get a Trail Gear 4 link last week but I wasn't ready to start messing with my gas tank or flat bed. More and more companies are coming out with link kits now. I could strangle the guys at ORS for closing down their shop, they had some of the best link kits available!

Do you guys know if they make any kits yet where I don't have to remove the back of my 4Runner. I was kind of hoping to keep the back seat. Is there a kit out there for a Jeep that I could use.
