I am debating between Toyota Electric Locker and ARB for my 86 4Runner that I am going to use for rock crawling. I thought I would ask you guys for some pros and cons on both applications. I am planning on putting it in both my front and rear for my 4Runner. For the front I have a 85 solid front axle. Also I was planning on gearing it at 5.29. Any input would be helpful.

The motor on the electric makes for an obstruction you dont have to deal with on the ARB. I had nothing but issues with the wiring of mine(e-locker) eventually burning out the windings on the motor. Functionally they are effectively the same.

If for no other reason than this, I would go for the ARB. My buddy uses them, they work GREAT!!!! He has on occasion had issues with air leaking from his rear locker, mostly due to us taking his truck apart all the time and probably damaging some of the lines. The locker never stopped working, it just made the compressor cycle more often. Anyway, he has had a couple of reasons to call ARB. They stand behind their product 150%. He had to replace some small parts 3 times, the first two times ARB sent him the stuff FREE. The 3rd time he had to pay for a couple of tiny air linkage parts. The last time was last week, the locker was leaking again but still working fine, he called ARB, shipped them the locker to have them look at it. They checked it out, it was the main air seal inside the locker. They could have just replaced one air seal and sent it back to him. Instead, he has a BRAND NEW newer style locker in a box on it's way to his house for FREE! Apparently they didn't tell people that you had to tighten the preload on the carrier more than factory and had issues because of it. They solved the flaw with the new style locker and wanted to do right by my buddy. I doubt you'll get the same kind of support with an e-locker. Plus the e-locker can't air your tires up.

I can back speedy up on this one.I run ARB's in my Tacoma and would not go any other route. The support alone was worth it.I have yet to pay a dime for any service parts.Everything I've needed shows up at my door no problem.I've had them for several years now and other than compressor issue's which ARB solved on their mini compressor I have no complaints. The issue with the original compressor was the tank didn't have any support and after being thrashed on the trail the tanks were warping.Well they added a brace so now I have no issues at all.Worth every damn penny. If you go with the ARB contact Rocky Road Outfitters they have had the lowest prices and their customer support has been awesome! www.rocky-road.com/toyota.html
