i have a 1993 V6 toyota and it has a 3.0 in it. i bought it with 190,000mls on it and figured itd ride into the mid 200's if i was lucky. it has a 6" lift with 32x11.50s so i figured id take it offroading, like i would any truck, and see what it could do. things went fine taking it mudding and whatnot for bout a month and a half, then i developed horrible knocks in the engine and severely lost power... i took it to a shop and had it looked at, they tore it down and checked shit out, basicly after all was said an done they told me i have cracked piston sleeves, fucked up lifters and a couple other things goin on in there... so basicly the things been sitting, waiting for me to figure out what engine to drop in it and find a shop to do it. Im stationed at Fort Lewis WA and wondered if anyone had suggestions for a better engine than the 3.0 since iv heard they commonly have problems and even manufactural defects. if anyone lives in this area knows of a good shop to have the engine swap done at, that information would be much appreciated as well. thanks for any help you can give... -Mitch

www.offroadsolutions.com can supply you with a complete kit, down to the last bolt needed, including the engine itself, to change over from the 3.0 to the 3.4lt engine, which apparently is much more reliable and a bit more powerful but less of a guzzler! Check them out, see what you think! Dave

i talked to a friend of mine a few weeks ago who works for Cummins and he told me he could get a 4BT diesel crate engine through cummins for about $1800 and that it should fit in my truck... any idea what kind of gearing complications there could be or if it would even work? it sounded like a badass idea at the time but iv grown somewhat schepticle as iv thought it over. i asked him wtf they put that engine in and he said mostly manlifts an bobcat type machinery. i think if it did work itd produce alotta torque and could be a badass, unique vehicle. what do you think?

The 4bt is a delivery truck motor. I think its a bit big to find in bobcats. Its basically the same motor as the dodge trucks 5.9L but with two less cylinders. Its not a small motor, and its heavy. 1800 with a computer and harness? Sweet. You can bolt the motor up to anything they put behind the dodge. Its been done but its still a sweet swap. This site may help. www.4btswaps.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=452aaf3d9df63f9dd3ec7299eb38c318&f=2

I was under the impression that the engine is supplied. However, I was thinking about the same swap too, but since mine's not giving me any trouble yet, I'm leaving the idea on hold for the moment since cash is quite tight!

ok, so iv decided i really need my daily driver back on the road, im gonna call around an find a shop that i can have my truck towed to, have em order an install the new engine... i was wanting to go with the 3.4L to eliminate the chances of a 3.0 shittin on me again, but i was wondering how much more costly that swap would be, aside from the engine, like additional stuff theyd have to have... any help? is the 3.4L all that much better than a 3.0? i need my truck operable =/

The 3.4 is a much better engine than the 3.slo, but a rebuilt 3.0 would quicker, easier, and much cheaper than swapping in a 3.4.
So the question is, do you have the time and $ ?

the rebuild on the 3vze isn't too bad. i did one this summer with a chainsaw wound to my leg in a week for about 850$. but if you are still looking for a replacement engine look into the 22re. a friend of mine has one that stomps the 3v and it's in a lifted 94' sr5.
