How long will a 22re run for with a rod knock. Only knocks when under hard throttle, or letting off gas. What should i do?

yeah it overheated a few times, the water pump went. I just put in a timing chain kit and water pump and everything went smooth. I was thinking a bearing is shot on the crank. It doesnt burn any oil so i dont think it is piston slap. What do you think i should do and how long do you think she will last?

if it has overheated it could be the valves if its top end and maby the bearings the first thing i would do is drop the oil pan and check for and metal or peices of bearing or ne thing then check the thrust washer and make sure their still good if the endplay gets messed up it could cause this if its all good i would go into the head

rod knocking=engine dies soon
All internal combustion motors except wankel rotary engines have rods. Rod knock refers to the noise you get from a pounded out con-rod bearing.
If your oil pressure is fairly low that could be enough of a verification that you have a bottom end problem to warrant dropping the oil pan. But honestly if the rod is knocking you arent likely to save the crank so it might not be worth rebuilding.

yeah, shes gunna die! I was looking at a rebuild but, i think the crank is ruined. Now im looking at a engine from a junk yard with supposedly 98,000 miles on it. I went to look at it and it was real dirty, they said it ran good and gave it a 2 month warranty. what do you guys think of this, they wanted 700?

I had the same prob happen to me after a top end rebuild. When tearin into you have to pull the pan and clean the oil pickup tube out. A lot of people dont realize that. But...like i said it had happened to me shortly after a top end build with milled head, new valves and cam. When i pulled my head i could tell that it had been milled once before (possible head gasket fix). With having to mill it again I guess the bottom end couldnt handle the compression bump even tho my clearances were good.
At first I thought it was my fresh timing chain until it got worse and worse just like you described. What i did was a ran a thicker weight oil the worse and worse it got. Eventually i was running 50 weight race oil. I got about 4.5 months out of it but i didnt let the sound effect the way I drove. I still ran her hard, still hit rev limiter when wheelin and she didnt really skip a beat until I went hunting one day and it all just let loose. She threw two rods and still kept kickin on two cyl. I was able to limp her home 3 miles in 4 low. I was still able to fire her up and run it around the house when i had to move it out of the way until i put a new engine in.

Thats impressive. yeah that sounds like my plan as well, lol. so i need a new engine. wheres the best place to pickup a engine for a reasonable price? LCE is to expensive. I wouldnt mind some more power too! let me know what you guys think.

could just rebuild yours. I got one from ATK engines. Came with 3 year unlimited mile warranty. seems to have held up pretty good. I would have rather went with Jasper to tell you the truth.

jasper ayhh? i would like some more power, i was thinking about a keith black 22r, but it would run me like 2400 from Johns Foreign Engines. I was looking at their stuff. what would you have rather gone to jasper for? did you get a rebuild? one more question, how much did it run you?

I was not aware that he was revering to connecting rods...I have a 22re block clean repainted, new bearings, and rings needs a head I would trade it with a new head for a clean solid front or bow tie motor and I give some cash...engine has all parts needed most new can get it how it sits block assembled or complete...would sell cheap just an offer
