Hey all! I've got a 86 pickup with a 22r. I've had it for about 8 months and every once in awhile the idle will drop and it will start to die until I get on it and run it hard through a couple gears then its fine after that for a few weeks. But all of a sudden today it started doing it and wont stop. If I running it hard it will be fine and idle for a couple of seconds fine and then it will try to die. Anyone have any Ideas. Its almost acting like its flooding out.

I moved this thread here because I think it'll get more attention than in the Non-4x4 Discussion forum where it was.
Some possibilities for non-idle could be dirt in the bowl, fuel level in bowl isn't right (sticky float, etc), problem with the fuel cut solenoid, ...

I had a simular problem and took it to a guru of engines. i told him that it would idle fine until it got to operating temp then it would try to die unless i kept the gas to it. He said that is an easy fix. there is a diaphram on the side of your carb that has a pin hole in it. If i remember corectly there is a circular metal plate on the side of the carb and under that is a rubber diaphram that he replaced never had a bit of trouble out of it since. This may be your problem it is worth a shot or to ask an expert if this is it.
