What year truck? When you get into fuel injected vehicles you are some what limited in the cam duration. You also might want to read up on new cam break in. MOST IMPORTANT - Be careful what type of motor oil you use. Todays motor oil is not designed for older vehicles It does not contain enough Zinc and other additives for proper engine break in. Speaking from experience I installed a cam in a 22re engine, the cam went almost 2k,when I removed the cam it looked like it got turned on a lathe. I had nobody to blame but myself, because I didnt take the time to do the research. Changing the cam isnt to bad, their was a lot of good information presented in the previous link. -GOOD LUCK

When I did my cam I used the same oil that I always use. Been runnin for years without a problem. Did you have the vaves adjusted right.

Adjusted them using the cam GRIND NUMBER - INTAKE -.008 EXHAUST .010 I also purchased special tools to adjust them. The mistake I made was Improper cam break in and the wrong engine oil. Todays engine oil does not contain enough phosphrous and zinc for proper cam or engine break in. I rebuilt the engine again -- Ross pistons - Trw mild cam -degree cam -over size valves ect- headers - Moved the knock sensor. used studs instead of head bolts, I also spent hours doing research and many phone calls and Iam on a first name bases with the toyota dealer and I called Valvoline, getting information on engine break in and the proper engine oil for OLDER ENGINES. Give VALVOLINE a call at 800 832-6825 they will tell you the proper grade of oil to use for your vehicle. I have rebuilt many engines and this is the first time I have seen a camshaft fail like this one in so short of time.
