hey, on those kits I noticed one price said "kit" the other said "system" whats the difference? also on those kits listed... whats the quality difference between the "skyjacker" and "tough country"?
hope I'm not jacking the thread... I can only con the ol lady into letting me spend that much money on my truck once, and I want to make sure whatever I buy can take some abuse...

Usually a "kit" will come with blocks for the rear while a "system" will come with replacement springs. All i can say is SAS.

can you do a SAS for about the same $$$ though, and match the height? differences in difficulty of installation? (really, can I do it in a weekend?)

My SAS took about 12 hours work. Thats not including prep work. I rebuilt the axle in advance and already had the hanger and shackles tubes installed by a journeyman welder. So doing the actually swap was just cutting out the offending IFS parts and then installing the solid front was a straight bolt in procedure. This was me and one friend working on it. Now i have close to a decade of fab work and more wrenching under my belt, i am sure i could cut that time considerably. Again the most important part is prep work if you want to get it done quickly.
As far as expense well its a lot cheaper now then it was when i did it. You wont do it for the price of an ifs kit but if you are a good scrounger you could come close. Rear leafs up front, ford shock towers, doubled stock brake lines are just a few ways to save money. If you look hard enough you could likely find the steering used from someone upgrading to 60s.
