My v6 doesnt like to start. It will start after alot of cranking.
I checked ignition and timing they are all good. I think i narrowed it down to the injection system. At first i thought it was a faulty cold start injector but have eliminated that.
I've found that with the key on and engine not running i have no fuel pressure (i just loosen the banjo bolt on the CS injector to check for pressure) but like i said it does start so the fuel pump has to be be working. I even jumped Fp and B+ and have nothing. Is there a fuse im missing or something? Im out of ideas. Any help is appreciated as im trying to sell it
1990 4Runner with the V6 3.0 STM
Thanx

Ignition and timing were good but what about compression?
I am not sure what you are saying in the second half of your post. If you jump Fp you should have pressure as soon as you turn the key on. Try loosening the banjo on the main rail or the main fuel line. But this is sort of moot since it does start, it obviously has pressure.
I was having the same issue with mine and it turned out to have two cylinders that were pretty much dead.

Thanks for your reply.
Didnt think to check compression as it seems to run well and have good power. But i will take a look at that. Also it only started doing this the past month.
Shouldnt i have pressure as soon as i turn the key on regardless if I have Fp and B+ jumped or not?
I did the headgaskets about 2 months ago maybe that could be linked with the possible dead cylinders. But it isnt loosing coolant.
Thanx

I don't have the schematic in front of me but as i recall the circuit has at least three legs including running through the air speed sensor. Simply having the key in the on position won't cause the pump to run. Does jumping the pump allow it to start quicker?

so the pump does not pressure up when you turn the key to the on position?
thats a good idea i will check tomorrow. and check compression as well.
thanx

compression is all in or close to spec with very little deviation between cylinders.
it seems to lose fuel pressure right away. maybe bad fuel regulator?

So i checked out a few things and now im positive its the cold start injector. as soon as i un plug it and hold the gas pedal half way to the floor it'll sputter and then start with a cloud of black smoke. So its like its flooded.
What sends the signal to the CSI to fire? manifold temp sensor?
Thanx

So after lack of replies i dug into the problem my self.
After hours upon hours or work with a multimeter i found out that when i did the headgaskets i accidentaly squished the wire for the cold start injector between the intake plenum and valve cover. The black wire is on the same circuit as the starter and other components. So when ever i tried to start it would ground out and use the starter signal to fire injector NOT the temp sensor. Eventually the other wire wore thru causing the starter not to engage at all.
I had this fixed quite a while ago just thought i would post to save others from this PIA.
