ive done many timing chains on the 22r,but this timing belt on my 3.4 looks a bit more complex,im debating trying to do it myself,i dont have a manual.i have mechanic friends but, the last think they wanna do after wrenching all day is help me out!!!it would be nice if someone could make a step by step series of pictures of this procedure.any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm in the same boat but I have the book! Go get the book it will be easier on you! I'm sure you can do it. It looks easier than 22R/RE. Just my $.02!

I would think the 22r would be considerably harder(I've done it) than a 3.4. I'm pretty sure it is a "dry" belt so you don't have to open the engine up as far to get it changed out. It would just be the pain of getting all the accessories off to get to it. I also agree with getting a book. I wouldn't touch anything that critical without detailed info on how to do it right.

Replacing the timing belt on the 3.4 is a relatively easy job if you're inclined and it sounds like you have wrenching experience. The main difficulty is getting main pulley (harmonic balancer) off. There are pulley puller kits at autozone which I recommend getting. Also having air tools makes it MUCH easier. Other than that and making sure everything is TDC, it isn't that bad. It's been a while since I did mine or any others, but I'm due for my trucks second one so it should be a good refresher. Maybe I'll try to do a simple write up. Although the haynes one does a pretty good job.
Get a manual (as you should have one anyway) and read and see if it is that big of a job for you.

I agree, just get the haynes manual.....it's pretty easy to do. Just don't forget to take your time!
