i need a new power steering hose and the one i had quoted was over $520!! can this be right? i have a 1992 4runner. 4" lift and 33x12.50 tires, so the steering does get abused. but that much for a hose? apparently it runs into the power steering pump and has something else on it.

Very possible - Most parts you purchase for a TOYOTA, should come with a jar of VASELINE. You might want to take the hose to a place thats makes hydraulic hoses.such as a farm implement place, some auto parts stores also make hoses. They cut the ends off the OEM HOSE,and replace the hose.

If then ends are still in good shape i would just take it to a hydraulic shop and they can put your ends on a new hose. I had this done on my honda civic when i did a motor swap it worked great and it only cost me $20.

Try partznet.com or PM me the part number and I'll check around. this is how it reads - "44410-35280- power steering hose(s) 1.00 units @ $526.76/ unit". of course this isn't including the $157.50 labour to install it.

Thay are ripping you off.My list price is $275 my partznet price is $213.94+shipping.BUT I also agree with the idea of taking it to a hydrolic shop.I've gone this route before because I have a Drivetrain lift and I needed a hose that was 2" longer. The only hard part is,to find a shop that can handle metric stuff if you need new fittings. If it's just the hose then there shouldn't be any problems.
