I here that ignition can help out power and economical gains quite a bit, if so then what type of gains can be seen from an MSD ignition or a similar upgrade? is it worth the cash?

Fancy ignition systems rarely help make power. They are more for making sure you arent losing power anywhere in the range through programmable advance curves. For the average stocker motor you arent really gaining much if anything besides underhood curb appeal.
