this post is for a buddy of mine. hes got a 87 4x4 pu, 22re. He has seem to have lost 1st and 2nd gear in the tranny. he can start the engine, put it in gear, rev, and hes get no movement. 3rd, 4th and 5th are fine, but he cant shift into reverse at all. there are no sounds when he revs up in 1st or 2nd (like there is a busted gear or metal plinking around in the gearbox). he can also shift into 1st and 2nd w/o haveing to press in the clutch, but not with the other gears.
Syncros? Diaphrams? busted rods? all the above? LOL im not a tranny guy, but i suggested draining the fluid to check if he has any metal shavings or chunks fall out. w/o having to drop the tranny and bust it apart, is there a way to diagnost the problem?
