Hey guys, I have a 92 4runner, in great shape. looking to do some smaller upgrades for casual offroading with some buddies. Nothing hardcore but i want to do some upgrades. If you were starting out with my vehicle, what are some things i could do to make this truck more versatile for offroading.

I am always a big fan of getting mud terrain tires. Good tires can get you into and out of all kinds of trouble. Then I would get a winch to get you out of any trouble the tires couldn't handle. Then I would start thinking about protection, like bumpers and rock sliders so the 4runner stays in great shape. Good luck and don't end up upside down!

i was in the same boat 10 yrs ago when i got my '92 4runner. and i agree with speedy- get some good tires first. if you are mostly just daily driving with a few offroad journeys there are lots of good tires that will get you in and out of some ugly messes without drastically killing your onroad performance. i had my runner for 4 yrs before i installed the liftkit and had lots of fun in that time. many times i wished i had a winch as i was trying to call a friend from the middle of a dried up lake or stuck on top of a log. a winch would have been nice. depending on your cashflow lockers would also be nice. that spinning wheel that gets all the extra attention just spins faster but doesn't help you get out of a jam. check the message boards especially in the '86-'94 trucks and 4runners for lots of other good hints. good luck and happy wheelin'.
