Seal packing: Part No. 08826-00080 or equivalent
Does anybody know if this is just regular Permatex like sealant, or should I be using something special.
Thanks

I'm rebuilding the motor in my 98 Tacoma 4x4. There are several instances where "Seal Packing: Part No. 08826-00080 or equivalent" is called for.
This is the first non-american engine I have rebuilt. I have always used Permatex Blue RTV silicone to seal up oil pans, valve covers, timing covers etc.
Just wondering if Permatex Blue RTV silicone is equivalent to "Seal Packing: Part No. 08826-00080".
PS After this I am tearing down the 22-REC in my beloved 85 4Runner. Still running just fine at 268,000 mi. despite being down a few ponies due to its age. It needs a head job so while i'm at it, I'm going to go ahead and rebuild the thing. might as well at that point.

Ok that's what I was think but the part number threw me off that's the old number the superseeded part number for what toyota calls FIPG(form in place gasket) part number is 00295-00103 can be used on almost everything. We use it on the places for rebuilding motors, installing oil pans, third members,t-case to trans ect.Hell I even used it to mount my CB in the dash panel It's around $10 at the dealer. The aftermarket stuff works but there's something about the toyota factory product that seems to be better.I even have a lot of GM and Ford techs that buy it from me to keep in their tool box.
