Well, I am at the end of my 3RZ rebuild in my Tacoma. Had a question about engine break-in procedures.
Here is what I have done in the past on US V8 engines.
1. I would cycle the starter with the fuel turned off and the coil wire off for a few seconds just to pump some oil through the motor. I would do this several times
2. Check for leaks
3. Button everything up and start the motor and let it idle for a while and check for more leaks, misfiring, etc.
4. Here is where I have the major question; my 3RZ engine revs higher than any V8 i've ever owned. The first 100-200 miles I would try not to exceed 3000 rpm on the V8's I rebuilt.
Any advice?

Don't know if there's anything special about the 3RZ engine, but any engine rebuild I do I usually like to go at least 500 miles without going over 3000 RPM and then re-torque the head bolts and readjust the valves. Also change oil and filter.

If you changed the cam then you shouldnt really be idling the motor on first start up. Proper cam break in for flat tappet's is to start the motor and rev to about 2500rpm with no load and keep it there for at least 20 minutes, preferably 30 minutes. Then change the oil and filter, set the valves and you can start driving it to bring in the rings. Light load, mid rpm range.
