ok i got a 79 short bed and just installed a chevy 4.3 with a gm trubo350 trans and stock transfercase. moved everything back a few inches and the stock crossmember will not work. is there a good aftermarket crossmember out there , welding new brackets is not a problem.

Absolutely, the ones from BudBuilt kick ass. Call him and tell him about your setup. He has a version that mounts using U-bolts for none stock locations.

Oh yeah, I have a single case version on one truck and the dual case version on the other, so I can attest to their strength

I used the u-bolt set-up to get me by until I got around and finished up another part of the project then went and welded up some brackets so now it's bolted up.
Bud can usually make it what ever way is needed to get it done correctly.

if welding isnt a problem .. just make your own ! Cost me about $10 bucks + consumables and some time. First I made a "trace" for the mount tranny mount is there , and now time for the frame attachment . cut some pieces , and cut and ground and bend .. and heres what I got . welding LONG shot ... lots of fitting and drilling cutting and fitting cut some frame braces .. boxed in the mount and got er' ready to drop out .. long shot added the protector plate , and strengtheners .. clearance .. and VIOLA .. DONE .
