93 22re, fresh rebuild The engine will be running fine idling like gold and smooth power when on gas, then it will have a spuddering fit that i can rev threw and lasts a minute. It can start sputtering at idle, acceleration, or engine deceleration.
I took it to toyota and the told me to replace the ignitor assembly, coil, wires, cap and rotor. so i did. The spuddering continues and i have no clue what it could be.
Any help would by greatly appreciated

Whens the last time you changed the fuel filter?

I originally thought it was the fuel filter, but the problem seems to get worse when its raining or the humidity is high. This is why i think it might be electrical. Toyota told me to replace the ignition system, so i did. Could it be Injectors?

Fuel filter has been replaced, problem is still happening. When it is sputtering out i can tap the gas and keep it going. If i go to far into the throttle, or keep the gas depressed the engine will bog out and want to die. I have no clue WTF is wrong, i have replaced the fuel filter, ignition coil and assembly, distributor cap and rotor, and the wires. I have no clue what this could be

I'm still thinking fuel related... maybe intermittant injector failure causing you to lean out? (thats when you get the sputtering) that would explain why it stops when you feather the pedal a bit...
also maybe it could be a vacuume leak? I'm kind ashooting from the hip, but I hate these intermittant problems, they're a mother F-er to troubleshoot

Check your throttle position sensor. I had a similar problem with my 4runner.

I know its been awhile since this was posted but I am having a similar problem with my 88 4runner 22re and was wondering what you did to fix PIA problem? I noticed that the pulsation dampener on the fuel rail was leaking I tightend it and it seemed to stop leaking but it seems to still be bad, but I have no idea if that is the problem or not. If you could my email is mopower13@comcast.net thanks for any info.

I second checking the TPS. When I put the EFI on my 87 the truck would idle but when I gave it any throttle it would run rough and sputter. Turns out when I put the TPS on the throttle body, I didn't have it lined up right.

The problem with my truck was with the sensors. I had a bad engine coolant temperature sensor, making the engine run rich, and a bad 02 sensor, making it want to run lean. So the conflicting engine codes were making the whole fuel air mixture messed up.
If i were you, i would look into sensors. Everyone always says TPS but i have had alot of problems like this and it has never been the TPS yet.
