I have an 84 Yota pickup and started installing a 5" suspension lift as well as power steering and a trail gear high-steer setup. The lift is ? free but upon removing my stock steering arms sludge-llke grease came pouring out from below the enclosed knuckle area. Looks like a mix of gear oil and bearing grease... did I do something wrong or does this indicate a worn out something or other? I drove this truck awhile and never noticed the any real steering wobble before starting this so I'm just wondering if I need to replace something or how to just simply replace what came out. I'd say only about 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup of it came out of both sides alltogether.
On another small note, I looked all over the web looking for answers and saw install instructions on this site. Something caught my attention on the removal of the old steering box. It says " You will need to use a torch and/or grinder to remove the original steering box bracket. Once the bracket has been removed from the frame you can begin the installation of the IFS steering box mount." ...I don't consider myself a mechanic really, I can just turn bolts and fab a little and thats all I had to do to remove everything from the frame. (4) 14mm bolts held the stock steering box to the frame and I removed a very small section of the inner fender well that I would need to take out to be able to weld the Trail Gear frame brace on and I removed the entire stock steering setup still fully assembled.... something I missed?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, seems like its harder and harder to find these days.
