Hey Calgary4Runner, Thanks so much for sending me the link to this thread! The site looks great so I became a member and I am sure you will see me around now. Your 4Runner looks wicked too! The fender flares covered up that rust very nicely. Its looking clean now. I hope you did something to seal up that rust to prevent it from spreading before installing the flares though. You can get really good thick sticky "rust inhibitor" in auto parts stores including Canadian tire. I have even heard of people wiping on a heavy sticky grease to the fender before installing the flares. But it would be a good idea to re-apply ever once in a while so the aerosol stuff would be more convenient with its applicator straw thing. Here is a link to the information page for these 90-95 Toyota 4Runner Fender Flares for anybody else interested in getting some. Anyways, I am glad that you like the fender flares, and thanks again!

Blake, regarding your question -"I hope you did something to seal up that rust to prevent it from spreading before installing the flares though."- Yes, I scraped off the paint around the areas, applied a rust inhibitor gel, rinsed it like the directins stated and then I primed the spots. You might not be able to see, but the picture was taken between gel and primer stage. The rust actually turns to a grey color after the inhibitor does it job. Hopefully I got enough of it that it doesn't spread- or at least gives me a few more years before things corrode completely. I mean my 4Runner turns 18-1/2 years old this month, so it's not like I expect her to stay in mint comdition for ever.

just for a quick update: the reason I wanted the flares was to cut down on the window splatter from the water/ice/snow spraying off my tires. After a week of driving through melting snow- my door is still pretty splattered but my side windows are definitely staying clean. When I add some mudflaps I'm pretty sure the side of my truck will stay pretty clean also. so they work great for what I was hoping for.
