1998 4runner ARB bumper question

Hi everyone. I have a question about an ARB bull bar application. I have been told by ARB and others that the only bumper I can use on my 98 4runner is the one for the older model Tacomas. Supposedly there is some modification to either the truck or the bumper that needs to be done to make it work right.

Anyone have any experience with this?
